Adopt a pet:
Pet adopters tend to adopt younger animals, but some do adopt mature animals as well too. In any case we need to know that all animals, like humans, have a typical life cycle - or life expectancy, as well as aging stages.
We all love the sweet smell of a puppy or a flower.
But the life expectancy of a dog or cat is much smaller than a human being. Thus many of us have to go thru the difficult issues of an aging animal when afflicted with disease - some terminal.
Often the animal dies in some sort of accident (cars) or serious illness (parasites) and we do not go thru the aging as often. Wealthy people very attached to their pets may spend fortunes to keep them alive - but the effect of aging are not reversible. The animal may suffer needlessly. Euthanasia is an option.
Being reminded of aging and death is a very important fact for human growth in maturity. We do not need to be insensible to these truths. An open heart and the pain associated with illness and death are great for our spiritual development. In India Spiritual Masters 1st steps were to spend time in cremation grounds so that they would wake up to this basic FACT of LIFE.
Usually the animal will get a sedative - direct to the bloodstream - and fall asleep. Then the final dose is given where the animal dies in minutes. They may give you the animal back in a bag in a small box or so. They may also dispose of the body but we prefer to bury them in the patio and make a simple tombstone with some plants as reminder. Once the animal is gone related animals may be depressed for a while.
I was amazed how in my family most did not make a fuss and forgot the pet that has been in our midst for over 15 years - but had a broken back and was suffering too much. Only I attended the burial! Most are busy today with cellphones and that makes them insensitive... heavily distracted and almost hypnotized.
I did feel Gods 😍 blessings upon the burial.
